I reserved a car and had my choice of a Pay Later price or a lower Pay Now price. I choose the Pay Later so I would have the ability to cancel.
On a subsequent page, in smaller print than the Pay Now/Pay Later option, it says "use your credit card to pay now and secure your vehicle" - kind of implying that your reservation isn't secure. I checked the box. My reservation still showed the higher Pay Later price, and I assumed it was still cancellable. Two days later, still 5 days before intended start of reservation, I saw that Alamo had a price $26 lower than Budget and Dollar was $22 lower than Budget.
I went to cancel and saw that I would be charged $50 for cancelling since I had a 'prepaid reservation" even though I was charged the Pay Later rate. I called I was told by the Budget rep "I don't make the rules and if you cancel it will be $50." I told him I'd be on Social media explaining their policy to people.
